The best organizations know to 1) Estimate and Price their work appropriately, 2) Execute their business plan ​efficiently (Labor and Equipment), and 3) Evaluate the results in a timely manner.


The real magic happens when an organization can integrate it's estimating software with it’s project management ​software, which is then integrated with the organization accounting system. And without a properly managed Job ​Cost database (subledger), none of this is possible.


Organizations must be diligent in this process by establishing standardized cost codes, measuring budget to actual ​variances based on production quantities, and providing a timely assessment of the financial results. The shorter the ​evaluation period the better, and highly efficient companies know where their job's stand as soon as payroll is ​posted.


The properly managed Job Cost Subledger is the key to all financial analysis, because without an accurate ​assessment of Job profitability and proper revenue recognition, the past performance (Income Statement) analysis ​will be inaccurate was well as the company's present financial condition (Balance Sheet).


At the end of the day, a company that can't manage it's Balance Sheet and Working Capital is a company that is ​bound to fail.
